Mediation Services and Training

Get Certified as a Court Mediator

You do NOT need to be an attorney to be an appellate, circuit civil, or county court mediator.

Mr. Dunlap is an approved appellate, circuit civil, and county court mediation certification training provider. In addition to teaching mediation certification courses at Barry University School of Law, Mr. Dunlap offers certification training to the public several times during the year.


Details about all programs are set forth below :


All training classes will be conducted live via Zoom video conferencing.

Supreme Court-Certified Circuit Civil Mediator Training Program - July 25-27, August 2, 3, 2025

The five-day course will begin at 8 a.m. and end at 5:30 p.m. on each day of the training.


Mr. Dunlap will offer a 40-hour circuit civil mediator training certification program conducted live via Zoom video conferencing. 


This course is open to anyone interested in becoming a certified circuit court mediator. 


Mr. Dunlap is a licensed practicing attorney, certified Circuit Civil, County Court, and appellate court mediator. His wealth of practical experience as a mediator and attorney who represents clients (plaintiffs and defendants) at mediations affords students the opportunity to receive a meaningful and valuable training experience. 

 Florida Bar Credits: 48 General CLER Credits, 9.0 Ethics, 1.0 Professionalism, 3.0 Technology

Cost: $945 – registration MUST BE RECEIVED by July 21, 2025

Class size: The training program is limited to approximately 15-20 students. Sign-up early to reserve your spot!

Refunds: Refunds will be granted up to two weeks prior to the first day of training, but are subject to a 25% penalty unless applied to the next training session offered. Refunds requested within two weeks of the first day of training will be denied.

Mentoring/Observations: Students who successfully complete the 40-hour training program will also be required to complete mentoring (observation of circuit civil mediations) requirements prescribed by the Florida Rules for Certified & Court-Appointed Mediators.

Training materials: Students will receive Florida statutes, rules and procedures applicable to county court mediators, and other handouts during the course.

Supreme Court-Certified County Court Mediator Training Program - September 5-7, 2025

September 5 (8:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.), September 6  (8:00 a.m.–5:30 p.m.), and September 7 (8 a.m.–5:00 p.m.) – Supreme Court-Certified County Court Mediator Training Program 

 

The three-day course will begin at 8:00 a.m. and end at 5:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and end at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday. 

Mr. Dunlap will offer a 24-hour county court mediator training certification program conducted live via Zoom video conferencing.


This course is open to anyone interested in becoming a certified county court mediator. 


Dan Ford, also a primary trainer for county court mediation certification training programs, will be serving as a second primary trainer during the training sessions. Mr. Dunlap and Mr. Ford are both licensed practicing attorneys, certified circuit civil and county court mediators, and approved appellate court mediators. Their wealth of practical experience as mediators and attorneys who represent clients (plaintiffs and defendants) at mediations affords students the opportunity to receive a meaningful and valuable training experience.

Florida Bar Continuing Legal Education credit (29.00 hours General CLE, 9.00 Ethics, 3.0 Technology; 1.0 Professionalism, and CME credits.  This seminar may also meet the requirements of the Certifying Board for Legal Assistants of the National Association of Legal Assistants for continuing legal assistant education credit required to maintain CLA (Certified Legal Assistant) credential.

Supreme Court-Certified Appellate Mediator Training Program - November 1, 2025

$295 (registration deadline October 27, 2025 ) Early registration $275 – must be received by October 22. Class size limited to approx. 15-20 students. Email DunlapMediation@gmail.com for availability after March 4.

You do NOT need to be an attorney to be a certified appellate court mediator. For initial certification as a mediator of appellate matters, an applicant must be a Florida Supreme Court-certified circuit, family, or dependency mediator and successfully complete a Florida Supreme Court-certified appellate mediation training program. 

There are NO role-play exercises during this training and NO mentoring requirements following training. This course is approved for Continuing Mediator Education (CME) in all categories of certification. Florida Bar CLE  8.5 CLER and 2.5 Ethics; 2.5 Technology; 1.0 Professionalism.  

This seven-hour (one-day) course will begin at 8 a.m. and end at 4:30 p.m. conducted live via Zoom video conferencing. 

Supreme Court-Approved Arbitration Training Program - March 9, 2025

Four hours (Florida Bar CLER 4.5 hours, 1 Ethics)

The arbitration program begins at 8 a.m. and ends at 12:30 p.m. and will be conducted live via Zoom video conferencing.

Early bird registration ($295) deadline is October 22, 2025. Regular rate registration ($325) deadline is October 27, 2025. Email Mr. Dunlap after October 27, 2025 for additional availability at DunlapMediation@gmail.com.
